Warp & Weft's Decorative Collection is inspired by the traditional design repertoire of antique carpets and textiles. Here our goal is to produce a new carpet that nonetheless offers a quality of material, technique, and design comparable to antique pieces. While these are produced in a modern economic and social environment, they are still rooted entirely in our close experience of the antique pieces that inspired them, especially that magical interaction of design and color.
Their designs follow or adapt sensitively the most outstanding carpets and textiles that we have encountered. They are hand-woven on traditional style looms from the finest, most lustrous hand-carded and hand-spun wools, using primarily vegetable dyes, but at times the best modern chrome dyes as well. Like their predecessors or ancestors, our weavers have learned to blend the different shades to achieve the 'abrashed' or variegated color effects that give antique carpets the richness and depth of their surface.
As in the best antique production, each of our traditional carpets has a certain uniqueness; none is an exact copy or repetition of another; all are in a sense one-of-a-kind. Their production is carefully supervised to exacting standards of quality control. At every stage we strive to achieve a result that has the look and feel of an antique.
