Kerman - 8' 10" x 16' 9"
Antique Kerman’s like this are famed for their ability to preserve the design traditions and technical standards of the great achievements of Safavid weaving in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The field is graced by a delicate allover reciprocal compartment design like those of classical Persian court carpets. Within the scalloped compartments is a welter of palmettes, and delicate millefiori flowers in shades of soft blue, mauve, and cream.

The design is so closely configured that that one cannot discern a distinct ground color amidst all the soft pastel tones. The same tiny flowers comprise the main border, but arranged around a softly curving vinescroll. In keeping with the Kerman tradition the scale of the design is uniform throughout to achieve the maximum decorative unity and grace.
